Role details:
The principal purpose for this position is to provide and support the most appropriate software solutions to satisfy the client needs using UCS TS methodologies

1.
Designs, Develops and maintains software for client
•Creates technical designs and provides estimates according to best practice and environment requirements (SNR Developer only)
•Deliver according to business requirement specification/functional specifications and technical specifications,
•Optimised SQL
•Delivered on time, within required deadlines
•Comprehensive Unit Testing before allocation to QA
•Bug-free,
•Documents software developments and changes
Supports software for client (3rd Line)
•Stores function efficiently
•Help desk is effective
•Up to date – no incidents older than 2 days
•Logs are resolved speedily
•and according to client SLA
•Accurate Root Cause analysis is performed timeously on all bugs (jnr/dev level to do this with Assistance from Snr Developer/Tech Lead)
Relationship building with Internal UCS TS Teams

Mentors and assists other developers

•Establish a “continuous improvement” approach by identifying technical and process gaps and seeking to resolve
Tasks that need to be performed in this job
•Obtains a clear understanding of the spec in conjunction with the Business Analyst and systems Architect
•Develops and agrees the test plan
•Writes / changes the software according to spec within the required time-frame
•Inserts comments which are relevant and understandable in order to document changes in software
•Assists in the compiling of user documentation where required
•Provides procedural documentation as / when required
•Unit tests the changes before handing over to QA
•Assists QA with queries/testing requirements

•Provides help-desk/incident support service when assigned
•Identifies and reports trends when appropriate
•Investigates reasons for critical problems
•Assists 2nd line support and other developers with training on incident issues when necessary
•Ensures that the defined SLA procedure is adhered to.

•Is willing to provide guidance and assistance to internal teams in accordance with UCS TS defined process
•Ensure that roles for new processes & procedures etc.. are clearly defined and in instances where these are not defined work along with internal teams to agree on the Policies
•Ensure that issues or concerns are escalated to management level but is still approached constructively
•Takes responsibility and ownership for items within the teams scope

•Assists with the growth and increased understanding of more junior programmers
•Provides input, assistance and guidance to other programmers when required
•Shares work-related knowledge and experience

•Inputs daily accurate time-keeping statistics according to UCS TS requirements
•Updates logging system daily with accurate time and status of current work log for development and incidents
•Ensure that Unit test cases are attached to the required requirement before QA handover
•Ensure that TRS documentation is attached to the requirement and that the UCS TS standards are up to date

•Actively Manages own knowledge growth
•Plans knowledge & skills growth and works towards constant improvement and regularly updates the Knowledge database for visibility (i.e. knowledge & skills map/Projectogram) in conjunction with Tech Lead.
•Identifies areas for improvement, R&D opportunities etc. & actively participates in the required R&D sessions. (more specifically for developers/snr developers)

Knowledge required to do this job

•Comprehensive knowledge of a programming language and its functionality

•Good understanding of programming concepts and design methodology within the UCS TS framework

•Understanding of the client’s business processes

•Understanding of the client’s operating system

•Understanding of the UCS TS software development cycle

•Understanding of the central / branch processing systems

•Understanding of the development and support tools (e.g. help desk, change control release, database tools, etc..)

•Basic understanding of hardware.
