Learning Technology Specialist

Information Technology is a service division that enables the University to reach its goals through the optimal use of information and communication technology (ICT). The Academic ICT division is responsible for supporting the academic functions of the University, including the learning and teaching management system and research systems.

• Operational
- Ensuring the optimal management and operation of the learning technology systems. This includes the eLearning system, video streaming, and content management;
- Managing the change control process.

• Incidents and problem management
- Logging, analysing and resolution of incidents and problems according to ITIL standards for learning technology systems, and ensuring that all incidents or problems are carefully documented;
- Liaising with service departments, suppliers and internal IT divisions to ensure that incidents and problems are resolved;
- Managing the updating of Known Error Database (KEDB) in collaboration with the Centre for Learning Technologies and other support divisions.

• Coordinating the support of learning technology in the classroom
- Handling communication with the stakeholders and team members in the classroom support team;
- Facilitating meetings with the representatives of classroom users and other relevant support divisions with regards to the support model, technology and systems in the lectures halls.

• Business Analysis
- Understanding and documenting the user’s needs around the learning technology systems and processes;
- Writing specifications for new systems, as well as enhancements to existing systems, in cooperation with the manager of learning technology systems.

• Liaising and coordinating within IT to ensure that systems are developed according to IT architecture standards and integrated with the other systems of the University;

• Reporting: Providing monthly management information on the use and operation of the platforms.

• Technology reconnaissance
- Examining developments regarding learning technologies;
- Providing training, in the relevant technology, to IT, the Teaching and Learning division and technical staff within faculties;
- Conducting ongoing research to raise awareness of the latest developments.

• Relationship management with clients (Centre for Learning Technology, computer user area managers, lecturers, internal IT divisions) as well suppliers regarding functionality or changes to the learning management system or the potential impact of upcoming projects or integrations.


• A three-year degree or diploma and three years’ relevant experience in the IT industry or an academic environment;
• Excellent knowledge of Information and Communication Technology, including educational technology and/or learning management systems;
• Excellent understanding of the higher education environment, including the learning process;
• Proven knowledge of/or experience in the use of information and information systems to improve processes and problem resolution;
• Proven analytical abilities;
• Good communication skills with proven verbal and written reporting skills;
• Good interpersonal skills;
• Ability to function independently, as well as within a diverse team;
• Ability to perform well under pressure in a dynamic environment;
• Effective time management.


• Business analysis experience;
• Project management experience.
