TELECOMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE
PRINCIPAL TECHNICIAN: INFRASTRUCTURE FIBRE ROUTES AND TRANSMISSION
TCOE SALARY COMMENCING FROM R434 352 PER ANNUM

Requirements:
- A 3-year National diploma or equivalent technical certificate
- 10 years’ relevant optic fibre technical experience, of which 5 years must have been in a supervisory position
- At least 8 years’ telecommunications industry optic fibre experience with at least 5 years’ experience as a Resident Engineer and technical lead in telecommunications optic fibre infrastructure construction and maintenance, installation and inside plant planning and experience in a lead/supervisory role for implementation of projects.

Key Performance Areas: - Supervise the construction, OSP and optic fibre of telecommunications routes and infrastructure
- Supervision and inspection of OSP, ISP, civils and optic fibre infrastructure per the approved design
- Provide technical expertise in providing quality control supervision and coordination of the implementation of the City's OSP/CIVILS/FIBRE infrastructure to satisfy a specified set of requirements derived from the Branch's strategic plan and customer demand
- Assist with developing and improving standards and specifications for the fibre optic network of telecoms
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Implementation team and contractors as well as operational maintenance in order to fulfil service delivery objectives
- Responsible for assessing and submitting deviation requests to the Planning and Design team via the coordination of the Project Manager
- Supervise, control and manage all resources assigned to projects in terms of their compliance to the City’s and Telecoms policies and procedures
- Ensure that Health and Safety rules and regulations are followed
- Oversee the internal administrative processes which must take place in order to fulfil the project delivery commitments, e.g. update document repositories, update tickets, form filling and update
- Provide management reports as required
- Act as a Project Coordinator for specific projects related to the Telecoms Infrastructure section as requested by the line manager
- Solve complex technical investigations and design problems and any other issues that may arise and hinder the progress of service delivery
- Ensure conformance to telecoms quality and technical standards and specifications by all parties
- Manage and oversee as well as undertake the necessary quality control of workmanship of contract companies and sub-contractors to ensure that the City obtains the best service delivery from these companies.
