Description:
The primary responsibility of the Systems Administrator is providing support, monitoring and
maintaining Linux infrastructures, applications and servers, for both internal and external
stakeholders.
For this role, a deeper level of experience in maintaining SLES and/or CENTOS/RHEL
environments would be preferred. The candidate should have experience with interpreting
direction from vendors (SUSE, Red Hat, Unbuntu, SAP, HP, etc.) and ensuring a clear
documented awareness of all steps to be taken in order to successfully perform patching
updates and reboot.
This role requires that the individual is capable of interpreting vulnerability reports and
defining executable actions that should be taken to reduce vulnerabilities and risk with
proven ability to perform in-depth analysis on patch requirements in Linux environments, and
build an action plan that will address vulnerabilities

Responsibilities:
• Interact with vendors and security as it relates to vulnerabilities and impacting (or risks) defects.
• Perform in-depth analysis on patch requirements, and develop action plans for execution of patching updates that will remediate vulnerabilities.
• Provision and configure servers with mandated infrastructure components while following industry best practices
• Ensure ongoing operating system compliance with security protocols and regulatory standards
• Resolve server and operating system infrastructure incidents
• Provide diagnostics/troubleshooting for infrastructure incidents and problems
• Proactively monitor infrastructure health and capacity
• Provide audit and compliance data as required
• Document change execution procedures as required by the change Management process and tool
• Install, configure and maintain physical and cloud servers running Linux
• Perform system tuning activities


Qualification:
• Candidate must have Linux Administration skills with focus on high availability.
• Grade 12 and Linux Certification; postgraduate qualification preferable
• 3+ years of experience in an operational environment with Linux
• Troubleshooting experience with Linux operational deployments
• Experience with vendor command line tools such as rpm, yum, and zipper
• Scripting skills – Korn, Bash, AWK, sed, Perl, python
• Experience with HP and Dell Compute Hardware.
• Experience using SUSE Manager, Red Hat Satellite or other automated tools to perform Linux updates in an automated fashion
• Use of version control (GIT, SVN)
• Exposure to SAP ERP and EMC Storage is advantageous
