Department of Process Engineering

Manager: Process Engineering Facilities

The Department of Process Engineering offers a strong undergraduate programme in Chemical Engineering, as well as significant research in the areas of Bioresource Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Separations Technology, Waste Valorisation and Water Technology. In support of constructive and effective operation, the Department requires a Facilities Manager who can provide a strong contribution in support of these operations.

Duties:

- Managing and coordinating physical infrastructure support, including related planning, general maintenance, testing, inspections, cleaning and effective space utilisation;
- Coordinating all aspects of occupational health and safety, fire, safety and security, including general supervision of laboratories, legislative compliance, emergency preparedness and safety training of students, staff and contractors;
- Facilitating support to undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory experiments, including planning, managing and maintaining equipment;
- Assisting with activities such as marketing and other, similar activities within the department and broader faculty context.

Requirements:

- A three-year diploma in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a BSc (Chemistry) degree, or a similar tertiary qualification on NQF level 6;
- Demonstrated technical competency in process technologies with excellent managerial skills;
- A minimum of four years’ applicable practical experience;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Good written and verbal communication skills;
- The ability to function in a multicultural and multilingual environment.

Recommendations:

- Experience in facilities management and health-and-safety management;
- Experience in technical asset management.

Commencement of duties: 1 May 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter
