IT Operations Manager, Bellville Park Campus ICT
(Ref. EBW04/152/0521)
Duties:
Overseeing the maintenance and monitoring of computer systems and servers at Stellenbosch University, Bellville Park Campus (This position can, from time to time, require after-hours system maintenance);
Reporting on system performance, IT system operations, including storage and memory utilisation;
Compiling a backup and recovery strategy;
Developing and implementing a disaster recovery strategy;
Implementing, managing and complying with the IT governance framework;
Managing incidents and problem management practices and procedures;
Providing support to Tier 4 requests and escalating it to external parties, vendors or Stellenbosch University IT;
Setting technical standards and developing IT policies and practices;
Maintaining the IT infrastructure asset register;
Establishing a portfolio of tasks and goals, based on the IT strategy and the strategy of the business;
Focusing on the ROI of IT investments and improvements, in line with the strategy;
A member of the Change Advisory Board (CAB) of BPC IT;
Creating a strategic plan that outlines how IT will contribute to the business's strategic objectives;
Leading a team consisting of systems administrators and service desk staff, coordinating with different departments, including Stellenbosch IT and external parties and vendors;
Planning and managing the skill requirements and performance of team members;
Providing guidance and acting as a mentor to team members;
This position reports to the Manager: IT-BPC.

Requirements: A degree/diploma with five years relevant experience, OR a relevant IT certificate with eight years relevant experience;
At least five years experience as a system administrator in a Microsoft server environment;
At least three years experience in a senior IT position;
Proven experience with managing a team;
Knowledge of database technology platforms such as MSSQL or MySQL;
System administration experience with virtual technology platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware;
Knowledge and experience in the use of IT Governance Frameworks (such as ITIL, Cobit 2019, etc.);
Experience with vendor and stakeholder management;
Experience with IT Risk management procedures (identity, analyse, mitigate, etc.);
The ability to solve problems innovatively and independently;
The ability to assess impact, urgency and risk of incidents and escalating accordingly;
Strong planning, coordination, and management skills;
Proven analytical skills;
A high level of accuracy;
Sound verbal and written communication skills in English;
The ability to work both in a team as well as independently;
Outstanding interpersonal relations;
The ability to take the lead in the field of expertise;
The ability to transfer knowledge to peers.
Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to psychometric and proficiency tests.
(The incumbent will be required to accept and sign the SU-system administrator code of conduct).
Recommendations:
ITIL or COBIT 2019 Foundation certificate;
MCSE or equivalent certificate;
Any other IT related industry qualifications;
Any IT related degree or diploma;
Experience in Linux system administration;
Knowledge of Linux as an operating system, preferably CentOS;
Experience in creating and debugging Linux Scripts;
Experience with and knowledge of Agile, Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies;
Experience with disaster recovery strategies;
Experience in Enterprise architecture.
