Role details:
They are looking to appoint a Data Engineer to join their dynamic consulting team and work on a combination of challenging business, technology, and finance projects. You will primarily be responsible for building and maintaining data systems and providing technical support for a corporate client. This involves L1 – L3 support across multiple technologies including but not limited to incident investigation, remediation, bug fixing, new features and data modelling. You will also get the opportunity to workshop new requirements, design, and spec new development across all clients. Part of your role will be to drive and manage all communication with IT service departments.
Responsibilities will include analysing in-depth datasets using SQL; creating detailed systems solutions recommendations to improve datasets and performance within the architecture; working in an agile environment with stand-ups, sprints and planning meetings; working in a small development team taking on new features, spikes, bugs; planning, design, implementing, documenting, testing and releasing new features; performing code reviews; Improving data quality and efficiency; maintaining and monitoring of SQL environment; liaising with the QA team to identify and fix bugs; security maintenance of database; and collaborating with data scientists and architects on several projects.
To apply you should have an Honours degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar IT qualification coupled with 2-4 years’ experience as a Data Engineer. This should include SQL development and database administration experience; database design experience; knowledge of programming languages; and experience in database security. It will be ideal if you have experience in Git, JIRA, JSON/XML, REST/RESTful APIs, Agile, Scrum, Design Patterns and Release Automation. Cloudera and experience with Big Data and Event Driven technologies would be a definite plus.
The role will call on your exceptional problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail, passion, enthusiasm, and ability to work with little or no supervision. You will need to be work under pressure with cross functional teams. You should have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and team members. You should have an aptitude and willingness to learn and grow while having fun in a dynamic team.
